Community Centre In Peril

Tuesday 03 November 2009

Devon County Council have given the St Davids Neighbourhood Partnership and the Exeter Community Centre Trust just 21 days to secure funding required to complete a £1.4m refurbishment of the Exeter Community Centre.  After five years of negotiation DCC had finally agreed in March 2009 to grant the building to our community based trust.

Calling into question the business plan which they themselves worked in partnership to produce, the council move comes at a time when the central government fund 'Communitybuilders' is set to assess our project.  The partnership and trust are calling for this deadline to be moved until the end of Janury 2010,  by which time a decision by Communitybuilders will have been reached.

Update - Devon County Council formally agreed on November 24th to defer the deadline until late January. The St David's Neighbourhood Partnership team have been busy gathering further details for the Communitybuilders assessment officers and the project is now firmly set to be taken to the Communitybuilders investment committee for a decision in mid January 2010.
